ISLAMIC & SECULAR EDUCATION
BDU is an institution under Bilal trust that provides Hifz ul Quran and Full Alim course. It also provides secular studies as well as a computer course after Form 4. BDU is based in Bangwe, Blantyre where indigenous Malawian Muslim students can board and attain Islamic and Secular Education.
The institute was established in 1996 with an enrolment of 27 students. The institute began with a Quran Memorization Course, resulting in the first Hafiz in 1999. In 2003, the Institute offered an advanced Islamic Education Course and for the first time in the history of Malawi, we produced home grown Ulama.
Since then, on a yearly basis students have been graduating. To date, by the grace of Allah, we have produced 65 Hafiz and 129 Ulama who are now serving in Malawi as well as outside Malawi and are in contact with the institute.
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR STUDENTS TO BE ACCEPTED FOR BDU ENROLMENT.
Every year, interviews of potential students are carried out by BDU staff, by visiting 18 locations in different districts across the country. The students are the products of 94 madaris run under Bilal Trust and other madaris run in the villages. The selected students are then placed in three Islamic Centers run under Bilal Trust. They are trained and provided with a two year introductory course to ready them to enroll at Bilal Darul Uloom. Students who proceed to Bilal Darul Uloom are offered a 7 year advanced Alimiyyah Course and complete their secondary education.
The institute also holds conferences in which graduates gather and present reports and progress of their work.
