About Us

Bilal Trust is a religious, charitable, non-profit making organization registered under the Non-Governmental Organization Board (NGO Board) of Malawi as well as the Council for Non-Governmental Organization in Malawi (CONGOMA) with dedicated to improving access to quality Islamic and Secular education for the disadvantaged Malawians by providing free education with a focus on making them a good human being. The Trust was established in the year 1996 under the Trustees Act and its registered office is based in Mpingwe Avenue in Limbe, Malawi.

Malawi has a population of 18 Million as per last Statistics of 2018 which is expected to double by 2038. Malawi is a landlocked with a scenic nature, situated in South Eastern Africa, covering an area of 45. 747sq.miles.

The country  obtained  Independence from the British colonial rule  in the year 1964. It is bordered by Tanzania to the north, Mozambique to the east & south and Zambia to the West.

The statistics shows that Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, with 70% of the population living in less than 1 US Dollar a day.

Muslims have been settled in Malawi for Centuries. They started settling in Malawi from Zanzibar as traders and farmers around 1833. The majority of the indigenous Muslim Malawians are found along the Lakeshore of Lake Malawi. Islam spread so swiftly across the country that within a short period it became a leading religion in the
rural areas. As early as the 18th Century, Christian missionaries invaded the areas which were predominantly occupied by Muslims and converted the weak Muslim faiths.

Amongst many others, these factors influenced the Muslim society to exacerbate in the growth of Islam, leaving Muslims uneducated and failing behind in their social obligations. The present circumstances invite the involvement of sincere and committed Muslims and  Islamic organizations to uplift the living environment and fulfil their social duties in order to facilitate Islamic & Secular education.

 

Together with education, Bilal Trust has also embarked on social-economic activities within several thematic areas including Health, Water and Sanitation, Socio-Economic Empowerment and Relief. The Trust operates the following institutions in Malawi
